Honours

Want to take your studies to the next level?

Honours is a great way to investigate a subject area of interest in greater detail. It is recognised as a prestigious qualification that further develops research and reporting skills. It is also considered a great stepping stone towards:

  • undertaking postgraduate studies
  • pursuing an academic or research-based career
  • improving career prospects and providing a distinct point of difference for you in the job market.

Within the Faculty of Engineering, Computer and Mathematical Sciences, a range of Honours specialisations are available.

Honours is normally completed in one year of study. In exceptional circumstances students may be permitted to enrol into Honours over two years (either three or four semesters). Students wishing to complete Honours over two years must apply through the Faculty Office. The Faculty Office will notify students of the outcome of their application and further enrolment instructions will be provided to successful applicants.

  • Computer Science

    Honours level study in computer science is available to high performing students.

    An Honours degree allows you to deepen your understanding of your chosen specialisation, demonstrates greater knowledge in your discipline and a commitment to further learning.

    Honours is a one-year program of additional study taken after the completion of the Bachelor degree and is suitable preparation for students who wish to proceed to postgraduate studies.

  • Mathematical Sciences

    Honours level study in mathematical sciences is available to high performing students, allowing you to deepen your mathematical knowledge of your chosen discipline. Honours degrees are highly regarded by employers as an indicator of strong ability and creative thinking.

    As well as broadening your career prospects, Honours will allow you to study some of the most recent advances in mathematics, at levels only touched upon by undergraduate study. You will learn mathematical techniques for the new millennium, and hence the start of the pathways into modern mathematics and statistics and their applications: finance, information technology, information security, telecommunications, pharmaceutical trials, bioinformatics, fluid mechanics, quantum and relativistic physics, medical imaging and more.

    Honours is a one-year program of additional study taken after the completion of a Bachelor degree and is suitable preparation for students who wish to proceed to postgraduate studies.

    Specialisations are available in the following degrees:

    *Students completing the Bachelor of Mathematical Sciences (Advanced) will be automatically eligible for entry into the Honours Degree of Bachelor of Mathematical Sciences.
