Matthew Welsh selected as Society of Petroleum Engineering Distinguished Lecturer
Dr Matthew Welsh, a Senior Research Fellow in the Australian School of Petroleum and Energy Resources (ASPER), is commencing his 2020-21 (virtual) tour as a Society of Petroleum Engineers Distinguished Lecturer with invited presentations in nine cities around the world.
The Distinguished Lecturers is the Society of Petroleum Engineering's (SPE) flagship program for invited speakers, designed to support the Society's goal of collecting and disseminating technical knowledge to more than 150,000 members in 143 counties.
Potential Distinguished Lecturer are nominated by members of the SPE to prepare presentations for submission to a two-step process - involving an initial selection of the most interesting topics and then a competitive trial presentation in front of the SPE DL Committee. The various SPE chapters around the world then select the Distinguished Lecturers they would like to hear speak.
Dr Welsh was nominated in early 2019 and his presentation "Oiling the Cogs: how cognitive science can improve oil industry decisions." was selected as a Distinguished Lecture by the SPE Committee in Celle, Germany, last August.
Given Covid-19 travel restrictions, all 2020-21 SPE Distinguished Lecturer presentations are being delivered virtually, but Dr Welsh will be presenting to SPE chapters in Geneva (Switzerland), Oslo (Norway), Santa Maria and Kansas City (USA) in October 2020 and in Brunei, Manila (the Philippines), Hanoi (Vietnam) Mumbai and New Delhi (India) in April 2021.
