AIML and the department of Primary Industries and Regions have recently completed some work on the assessment of pastoral regions using remote sensing approaches.  With limited resources and a vast area to cover the PIRSA pastoral analysis team has need for techniques that can detect key-objects to focus their on-ground assessments. This internship project will involve the detection of key landmarks, such as watering points (manmade or otherwise), animal tracks, bush fires, and more from orthomosiac imagery using computer vision techniques.

  • Vegetation prediction model S1 2021- AIML The University of Adelaide
AIML and the department of Primary Industries and Regions have recently completed some work on the assessment of pastoral regions using remote sensing approaches.  One aspect of this work involved modelling the Total Vegetation Cover for each pixel in a remote sensing product from MODIS, to see if we could predict the mean TVC that a pixel would have for any given 12-month period.
An extension of this project is to see if we could set this model up for an inferencing question – that is, could we predict scenarios based on possible rainfall amounts?  Additionally, we’d like to explore other ways to improve the model that we have developed.

  • Pose Detection and Movement Analysis - Virtual AI dance teacher - Feel the Beatz
Have you ever wanted to learn dancing but don’t have time to visit a dance class? Virtual AI dance teacher will allow you to learn dancing from the comfort of your home. The project’s aim is to develop a prototype for a software that can help dancers learn routines in the absence of a dance instructor. The software will provide real-time guidance to learners by presenting a comparison of dance movements between the student’s dance video and the instructor’s dance video. This would be done using Open Pose estimation software. The open source software provides an easy implementation of being able to compare the 18 joints of a human body and provide a comparative movement analysis. Having a virtual AI dance teacher would eliminate the need to find a convenient time and place to learn dance. It will provide an added luxury to learn from the comfort of your homes. This software will also open doors to global dance teaching platforms. The COVID-19 pandemic only reaffirms the need for such a software. Students are unable to physically visit dance classes anymore. An online teaching software can eliminate the need for physical classes in the future or act as a complementary tool to learn dance. The project’s scope can also be expanded to sports and fitness industries.
