Achieving a zero carbon design

by Yang Huang, Environment II
The main goal of the end design is to reduce the environmental impact of the building (and of the occupants) and to contribute positively to the environment, with a reasonable payback period for the investments.
This assignment demonstrates our knowledge about how an existing building can become a zero, or near-zero energy building (i.e. self-sufficient in electricity and low embodied energy) and may even be a zero carbon building (i.e. reduction in operating energy for the entire life of the building compensates the embodied energy).
