Our school’s high quality of postgraduate education services and research was recognised in 2000, when we became the first chemical engineering department in Australia and New Zealand to achieve full ISO 9000 accreditation. This accreditation also includes our undergraduate offerings, consultancy and commercial testing services.
Higher degrees by research
We offer two postgraduate research degrees:
The Master of Philosophy (MPhil) is a two-year full-time (or part-time equivalent) commitment, and teaches you about applying research methodology to critically evaluate literature and results in your field.
The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) is our flagship research award and is the standard qualification for a research career or academic position.
By studying a research degree with the School of Chemical Engineering and Advanced Materials, you can undertake a research project in an area of interest.
In either degree you’ll be supported by one of our research supervisors.
Our research capabilities
Our interdisciplinary school is advancing research in the following areas.
Our Laser Diagnostics and Chemical Sensing group aims to understand matter’s interaction with radiation and light and apply this knowledge to specific sensing applications and engineering devices to solve real-life problems.
Research in pharmaceutical, bioprocessing and biomedical technologies involves designing and scaling up manufacturing processes to convert chemical and biological materials into pharmaceuticals and medical devices.
