2-way bending of masonry walls

Do you know how masonry walls will fail under earthquake?

The failure mode depends on several factors, including opening condition, dimensions and support conditions, and capacity is a main concern for design purposes. However, it takes time to simulate the force-displacement relationship of it under ground motion and it is not ideal for consulting engineers.

Therefore, we built a simplified model for simulation purposes by using the time history analysis method. It can simulate the force-displacement relationship within a few seconds which includes force capacity and displacement capacity. Although the simplified model can obtain result in a few seconds, the results are accurate and this model will be used for further research of masonry walls.
