Artificial pancreas system

People with type 1 diabetes require multiple daily injections of insulin to stay alive.

Insulin pumps provide an alternative means to deliver insulin to the body and allow the continuous control of blood sugar levels. In addition to carbohydrate intake, many other factors affect blood sugar making it virtually impossible to maintain normal levels throughout the day. 

The aim of this project is to implement a closed loop pump control system (that has been published in academic literature) that automatically adjusts the pump’s rate of insulin delivery using real-time data from continuous glucose monitors. The algorithms are to be implemented in the DIY open source Android artificial pancreas system (AndroidAPS) that is used around the world by hundreds of people with type 1 diabetes to control their insulin pumps.
