Can a battery avoid a blackout?

With the increasing proportion of renewable energy (solar power and wind power) feeding into the South Australian power grid, the stability of our power system has decreased in recent years.

One of the causes of the 2016 South Australian Blackout is the lower inertia of the South Australian power system. This project aims to model the South Australian power system combined with a Battery Storage System. From our simulation of the power system, we have shown that the Battery Storage System can improve the inertia of the power system, which improves its stability.
