Don’t Cry For Me – A Hayfever Story

This project focuses on why grasses have allergenic genes, how they evolved, and whether they could be removed from the plant.

We have used CRISPR to generate mutant rice plants to test whether we could develop hypoallergenic "hay-fever free" plants whilst maintaining full viability. This could lead to exciting biotechnology that allow us to grow other hypoallergenic plants.
