The impact of SCAL in oil fields
How important is understanding reservoir rock in Field X?
The broad and low relief nature of Field X makes the volume of oil in place highly sensitive to capillary pressure and relative permeability. Core analysis data is key to determining these variables and a multitude of experiments and equipment are used in their determination. Small scale uncertainty and error during core analysis can be propagated throughout reservoir modelling leading to significant variability in oil volumes and recovery. Understanding the volume of oil within a reservoir is key for field development planning as well as economic analysis and reporting.
Our project aims to review core analysis data from Field X before testing the sensitivity of oil in place and production rates to changes in the reservoir rock. This will help determine whether more focus should be placed on collecting and analysing core in Field X and surrounding fields.
