Mechanicals of Solids and Structures

Researcher: Dr. Terry Bennett

Application and development of simulation technologies to virtually prototype the behavior of materials and structures over large time scales, length scales and temperature variations. Materials may degrade over long time periods (fatigue, radiation, outgassing) or break within extremely short periods e.g. meteoroid impact. This behaviour might be dominated at the large structural scale or changes to a material’s microstructure, with changes and gradients in temperature affecting the material properties such as stiffness and strength.
