Young Women in STEM

The University of Adelaide has been welcoming girls in year 9 and 10 onto our North Terrace campus for our Young Women in STEM event since 2005.

Young Women in Outreach activity

This program provides girls with the opportunity to meet current women studying STEM while undertaking a range of engaging hands-on activities, taught by technologists, engineers and mathematicians with a passion for supporting the next generation of STEM thinkers.

Students will spend the day at the University of Adelaide participating in a range of tailored activities.

Each participating school is able to invite a maximum of 15 girls to undertake a hands-on day full of STEM activities, designed to inspire continued study in a STEM field.

Groups are guided through several interactive challenges which will broaden each participants listening skills, teamwork and problem solving, all highly sought after skills in STEM careers.

  • The goal

Our goal is to empower young women to take the leap into the exciting world of STEM. Showing them their ability to achieve success in their chosen field and introduce them to amazing women who are doing just that.

We know girls and women make up a lower proportion of STEM students and industry professionals in STEM Careers. We know that girls and women are just as capable of succeeding in STEM. Our focus is to create an environment where girls and women recognise their value and realise their potential to choose a pathway into STEM.
