University of Adelaide PhD student Johnny Lim with his 2019 Elsevier Young Scientist Award.

Congratulations to PhD student, Mr Johnny Lim, who received the 2019 Elsevier Young Scientist Award (and USD$750) for the best student talk at the Chern Institute of Mathematics, Nankai University conference in Tianjin, China.

The conference, titled "Index Theory, Duality and Related Fields", was held in honour of University of Adelaide Elder Professor Mathai Varghese's 60th birthday.

Mr Lim's talk was titled "Analytic Pontryagin Duality in K-theory", which described the higher Aharonov-Bohm effect of D-branes in Type IIB String theory. The main result of his research is to close a gap in the literature arising through work of John Lott in 1994.

Mr Lim's outstanding result was by unanimous decision by a panel of 4 international judges.

Congratulations!
