The University of Adelaide’s DualTech Ultrashort Pulsed Lasers (USPL) Group, within the School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, ran two-day symposium on Ultra-High Power Lasers and their applications.

This University of Adelaide event hosted speakers from prestigious industry partners including: THALES Australia, Thales LAS - France, ILE Osaka – Japan, HB11 Energy, BECA, and Academia from Macquarie University, Swinburne University of Technology UNSW, and ANU.

Leader of the research group, Professor Miftar Ganija, commented, “As world leaders in 2-micron, high repetition, high energy lasers, our University is an active hub for laser fusion – a multi-billion-dollar industry. Establishing this ecosystem is pivotal for the economic growth of South Australia and Australia as a whole.”

The symposium was an engaging platform for experts, researchers, and enthusiasts to come together to explore and discuss the latest advancements in the field of Ultra-High Power Lasers, with dual-use applications in Defence, Nuclear Fusion, Sciences, Industry and Health.

Following the event that week, the Prof Ganija delivered a capability paper at Parliament House in Canberra on the 19th October.
